Tips and Ideas for Organising Your Garage

As well as being the perfect place to store gardening equipment and tools, garages are a fantastic place to store items that you need but don't have space for in your home. This could include sports equipment, bikes, Christmas decorations, and more. The downside is that garages can quickly become dumping grounds, where everything you don't want in your house is put and then forgotten.

  • Declutter and Clean

The first thing to do is empty your garage and get rid of anything you don't need or want to keep. This step is crucial, as there's no point in keeping items you'll no longer use. If you can, pass things onto other people who need them, or recycle anything that's broken or no longer fit for purpose.

Once you've taken everything out, take some time to brush the floor, clean out any corners filled with cobwebs and start organising in a fresh space. It's also a good idea to check your garage door and ensure it's working as it should. If you find it needs repair, you should contact a professional company like ours immediately.

  • Get a Proper Storage Solution

Everything gets thrown in and piled on top if you're storing lots of stuff in your garage and don't have a storage solution. Unfortunately, this means you can't find what you're looking for as it's hidden beneath other things, and it can be easy to forget things in the chaos.

Our top tip for organising your garage is to get a proper storage system that can accommodate everything you need to store. You could choose a shelving unit, storage boxes, a dedicated tool storage area, bike racks or whatever else you require. An organised system will make it easier to store and find things when you need them.

  • Group Like Items Together

Organisation is vital when you put all your items into your chosen storage solution, and keeping like items together always makes the most sense. For example, keep all your tins of paint, paintbrushes and other decorating equipment in one place and keep all your gardening tools and equipment in another. Separating items makes it far easier to find something when you look for it, as you know roughly what section of your garage it will be in.

  • Label Everything

Once you've got a storage system, it's a great idea to label everything so you can locate the things you need quickly. If you've chosen a shelving system, put labels on the shelves to indicate which items are where and do the same if you go for storage boxes. Labelling saves you from remembering which things are stored where and makes it easy for you or someone else to find something quickly.
